In Focus

I am so ashamed of taking a hiatus after only three posts!

Hard to admit, but sometimes I find I am my biggest problem.  I find I often give up projects midway or end up being inconsistent because I lack focus of what I’m doing and why I’m doing it.  As a result I tend to give up a project midway or become inconsistent – hence the hiatus or just not starting at all.

To get my mind right and thoughts straight, I had to sit down and ask myself a series of ‘Why’ and ‘What’ questions to determine what my focus really is.

I asked myself:

  • Why did I start this blog?
  • What is the purpose of this blog?
  • Who am I doing it for?
  • What do I want my readers to gain?
  • Why do I want them to read it?
  • What do I want to gain from this?

We often miss out on many things in life, many opportunities pass our way untouched and many dreams left unfulfilled because a lack of focus.

Pause and ask yourself:

What do you see?

Where are you heading to?

Stagnancy is often a result of a lack of focus.  When we don’t know what we are doing, why we are doing it and whom we are doing it for, it is easy to be deterred, discouraged and dismayed.

‘Where there is no vision, the people perish’

(Proverbs 29:18)

When I meditated on this scripture I thought: When you fail to realise who you are in Christ, what He has done for you, deposited in you and called you to be – you will perish.  And by perish I mean your true self (the you God has called you to be) will just lay there dormant, unproductive and unfulfilled.  Spending time with God in prayer, reading His Word and being in fellowship with others are all things that will help make your vision clearer.  When your vision is clear, you’re focused to achieve.

Regularly reflecting, reassessing and re-evaluating your focus will help keep you in check.

When you are sure what and why you are doing something, it will keep you focused in pursuing your vision and achieving your dreams.  Focus will help you live a life of purpose and fulfilment.

In truth and with love,
